Saturday Night With The Old Guy

There's not much excitement when you're living with the old guy, but it's kind of comfortable.  We snuggle up on his chair and get a nice long snooze.  Unfortunately, at his age, it doesn't last long before he needs to visit the bathroom.  That's when he gives me a rude awakening.  I try to hang on, but he's bigger than me and always gets the better of it.  Okay, okay!  I get the message.

My Fuzzy Mouse

Good news!  I found my fuzzy mouse.  He was hiding somewhere under the couch, but I was able to fish him out and add him to my collection of toys.  I think the old guy has finally figured out that it’s a waste of time to try and tidy up my entertainment center, so maybe he’ll leave my things alone and I can do what I need to do—play!  After all, that’s what being a kitty is all about.  Right?

My Entertainment Center

The old guy didn't appreciate me messing with his precious cherries, so he put them in a sealed container where I can't get them.  Bummer!  Anyway, he left the glass on the counter with the pits and stems, so I snagged a couple of them and stashed them around my "entertainment center".  I'm having all kinds of fun with a cherry stem and need to make sure Rod doesn't toss it out when he's cleaning up--if he ever does.  I'm wondering what other stuff he's going to bring home?  Some strawberries could be fun, but they may be a little messy.

Cherries are all kinds of fun

The old guy went shopping today and brought back some nice fresh cherries.  He's been nibbling on them all afternoon and leaving the pits and stems in a glass.  They offer all kinds of opportunities for a little kitty to have some fun.  I've been snagging a few samples when he isn't looking and stashing them all over the house.  I took a bite of one of them, but they don't taste like anything I'd want to eat.  I think I'll just stick with a kitty chow and chicken diet, but it's nice to have some new toys.

A visit from Rich

Rich, one of the old guy's sons, came to visit last night to help clean up the place and fix a few things (of course, nothing that I had messed up).  I can always depend on him for some excitement and he stayed true to form yesterday.  First he scared me half out of my skin with a vacuum cleaner, so I retreated into my cube.  Then, he attacked me with a broom.  All kinds of fun...NOT!  I'm sharpening up my claws and thinking up a few ways to get back at him the next time he visits.  I can cause some real pain--just ask the old guy.

A Few Kind Words

I get kinda lonely when the old guy goes out, so it’s nice to see him when he gets home. He usually takes time out to give me a few strokes and some kind words.  If I snuggle a little bit extra, I get a little chicken snack as a reward for not destroying the house while he was gone.  Not a bad life.

Yawn!

What I did on my Sunday afternoon...

Back in the Box

So, the old guy finally got around to trying to clean up the place.  It's about time!  Unfortunately, he folded up my box and stashed it by the TV.  I had a heck of a time trying to open it back up, but my persistence prevailed.  My box is really cool and I need to make sure Rod doesn't toss it out.  I'm still wondering whatever happened to my green cube.  Next thing you know, my red cube will disappear.  I wish he's keep his mitts off of my stuff.

The Box is Back

I saw the old guy breaking down the wine case and it looked as though he was going to toss it out with the trash for sure.  However, when he saw how much fun he was having with it, he decided to hang on to it for a while.  Yeah!  He's a petty cool dude.

What a messy house.

I don’t know what’s with the old guy, but he just can’t seem to keep a tidy house.  It’s not as if there are a bunch of rug rats living here.  He and I are the only ones in the place and he still seems to have stuff scattered all over the place.  I’m used to a neater environment.  Maybe he should breakdown and bring someone in to clean up once in a while.

Let's Keep The Box

The old guy tore down the wine carton last night and was getting ready to through it out with the trash until I let him know I wanted to keep it.  I think it's more fun now than when it was in one piece and it lets me have all kinds of ways to enjoy myself.  He finally relented and let me keep it a while longer, but he tossed out a bunch of other junk.  He's pretty cool.  Thanks, Rod.  I promise to behave (Ha!).

I Have My Moods

I'm usually a laidback kind of kitty, content to snuggle with the old guy, or play with my toys.  However, on occasion, I really get tired of having a camera stuck in my face at all times of the day and night. When that happens, watch out!  Okay, Rod, you've been warned.

Thinking Outside The Box

Sometimes I just don’t like to spend a lot of time messing around.  I’ve been playing with the wine box for a couple of days now and I know the old guy is going to toss it out tomorrow because it’s trash day.  It’s time to think outside the box.

A Little Light Grooming

I like to make sure I’m always looking good for my fans, so I make it a habit of sprucing up every time I get the chance.  The old guy thinks it’s very relaxing to watch me take care of my grooming and sometimes tries to help by brushing me.  I don’t mind it on my back, but it tickles on my tummy and I don’t put up with that for very long.  All this work has worn me out, so I guess it’s time to take a little nap if the old guy stays in his chair a while longer.

Wine Connoisseur

The old guy is a real wine connoisseur and I love it when he replenishes his supply of fine wines.  Today, he went to Trader Joe’s and picked up a whole case of Charles Shaw merlot.  It must have cost a small fortune.  I don’t know why he refers to it as “Two Buck Chuck”.  His doctor told him he should drink a couple of glasses of red wine every night and he’s more than willing to oblige.  I get to play with the carton after he puts all of the bottles away and it’s a great way to have some fun.  I hope he hurries up and finishes off his supply so he can get another case.  Maybe he’ll get cabernet the next time.

Boring Saturday Afternoon.

The old guy’s place can really get boring on a Saturday afternoon and all his kids are busy, so I guess I'm stuck with him for the day.  Rich shot a graduation in Tucson yesterday and is shooting the Santa Monica Classic tomorrow; Greg is directing the WSA Surfing Championships; and Jill is on her way to a National Geographic cruise in Alaska.  Meanwhile, Rod’s parked on his chair for the rest of the day and I’m really kinda worn out after my activities earlier today.  I guess I’ll just cool it on the coffee table and maybe snuggle up with him for a nice long snooze a little later.

Spurt of Energy

Sometimes I don’t know what gets into me, but I just have to get up and move around a bit.  When I get this little burst of energy, the old guy acts like I’ve totally “lost it”.  I can move around more in one minute than he does in the whole day.  I really need to find a way to light a fire under him and get him cranking.

Tricks for Treats

I must admit the old guy knows how to get my attention.  I was all set to stay up on the ledge for the rest of the afternoon until he opened the refrigerator and tempted me with a nice little chicken snack.  Just too much to resist.  I'd jump through hoops for chicken.  Yummy!

Not Easily Distracted

I really enjoy playing with my soft scratch post now that it's no longer hanging up.  However, the old guy bought a nice plump chicken just for me yesterday and baked it in the oven.  The weird old man enjoys cooking the giblets separately and eating them as a snack before dinner.  He put a little piece on the side table for me to try, but I don't see what's so great about it.  I decided to get back to playing and wait for the real thing.  Nothing like some white meat to make my day.

Suspicious Package

Hmmm!  The old guy got a very suspicious package package from UPS today.  Someone sent him a bunch of plastic bags full of air.  Very strange.  I really need to take a close look to make sure it's safe.  These days, you never know.

Filling the old guys shoes.

The old guy always seems to be busy on his computer in the morning and things around here can get a little boring.  I try to find things to keep me amused, but he hides the cotton swabs, pens and other stuff I can get into while I’m roaming around on his desk.  Once in a while, I find a new toy, but it usually ends up on the floor, or under the old guys shoes.  In fact, his shoes can also be kinda fun to play with—if I hold my breath!

IT Kitty

The old guy sure spends a lot of his time on the computer and it is kinda interesting to see all the stuff he’s looking at on the screen.  I have my own little hideaway behind the monitor where I like to stash my treasures I find in the trashcan.  I also like to rearrange all of the nice little cables back there and maybe sharpen my teeth on them.  Once in a while, the old guy plugs his iPhone into one of the cables and gets new photos of me from iPhoto to show his workout friends at cardiac rehab.  All of the nurses and other old people there think I’m sooo cute.

Happy Mother's Day, Momma!

Hi Momma.  I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day.  The old guy tells me that Carol is also going to be a momma in a few months, so you'll have some company.

Love,
Tibbles

Clothes Belong in the Closet

The old guy is getting pretty sloppy in his later years—leaving his sweater on the back of a chair and laundry on the floor.  If he doesn’t want me messing with his stuff, he should put it where it belongs.  I kinda like his favorite old sweater and can really get my claws into it.  It’s more fun to jump on Rod’s back when he’s wearing it, but I can still enjoy snagging it wherever he leaves it.  I ought to ask him to get me my own.

I Have A Tough Life

I figured I’d better “play nice” with the old guy after he got my claws clipped at the vet yesterday.  I saw him reading a bunch of stuff on-line about declawing and heard him talking to someone on the phone about it.  I’m sure glad he said he definitely won’t do it, but I guess I’d better be a little more careful when I try to use him as a scratching post.  Anyway, I snuggled up with the old guy and we had a nice nap until he had to get up off the chair.  Darn, I was having some really nice kitty dreams.

What Just Happened?

Geez!  I accidentally scratched the old guy this morning and drew a little blood.  The next thing I know, he scoops me up, stuffs me in the pet carrier and takes me to the vet.  I really like the nice lady there, but she takes me in back and clips my claws.  That wasn’t very nice.  I also heard the old guy talking to the vet about maybe having to get me declawed.  I don’t think that’s a very good idea.  Anyway, I’m back home  now and just trying to figure out what happened.  I think I’d better cool it for the rest of the day.

My Scratching Post

The old guy used to have my scratching post hanging from a chair, but it never seemed like much fun to play with when it was up there.  Now that it’s on the floor, I can really get my teeth and claws into it.  Rod says it looks like I’m trying to practice for riding a bronco, but he likes the fact I’m now using it instead of his arm.  He’s talking like it may be time to take me to the vet again to get my claws trimmed.  I should tell him it's a waste if money because I’m just going to sharpen them up again.
