Up close and personal.

In the afternoon, I usually like to take an afternoon nap up on the shelf in the old guy’s office.  It’s a nice place to get away from it all and just relax.  Yesterday, Rich saw me up there and just had to get up close to mess with me.  He sure does get that camera right in my face and he had better watch out if he doesn’t want to be paying out for repairs.  Of course, I am kinda cute and he can certainly take some nice shots of me.  I guess I’d better find a few new places to hide if I want a little privacy.

I want in there.

I don't know what happened to some of my stuff since Rich moved in, but I know it's somewhere around the house.  I'm sure I saw my stuffed owl a couple of days ago, but now I can't find it and I think it may be in Rich's wardrobe.  It looks easy to open the door, but I just can't seem to do it with my paws.  I'm figuring that if I try long enough, the old guy will get off his chair and let me in there.  C'mon Rod, open the door and let me take a look in there.

Testing the water.

I don’t know why water is so fascinating to me.  It’s not like I like to get wet, but I can’t resist a running faucet.  I’ve watched dogs swimming around and jumping into water on TV and I’m certainly not going to do anything that dumb. I heard the old guy say that they’re even going to have a dog surfing contest today in Oceanside, one of our neighboring cities.  They’ll do anything to get attention.  No self-respecting cat would allow a human to make it do anything like that.

That's stretching it a little.

I found a rubber band on the floor yesterday while I was playing with the boiled egg.  The old guy usually doesn't like me to play with them because he says I could swallow one and cause all kinds of problems. This time, I promised I'd be real careful so he let me have it for a while.  Rubber bands are so much fun and I can do all kinds of things with them.  I can also lay on the floor and still play. The only problem, is that it's hard for me to get my paws on them for very long.

On a roll

Yesterday, the old guy went to Costco and picked up a few things including a new carton of eggs.  He still had some in the refrigerator, so he boiled a half dozen of them and let me play with one while it was cooling off.  It's a lot of fun pushing an egg around the floor, but I'm not as energetic as I was the last time he let me do it.  I'd rather lay on the floor and just give it a nudge every once in a while.  Rod has cut way back on the number of treats he gives me and even on the amount of cat food I get.  Maybe I'll lose a little weight and be more active.

Fun with feathers

I’ve noticed some big changes in the way I’ve been feeling lately.  I’ll be one year old in a couple of weeks and the old guy keeps reminding me that I’m no longer really a kitten.  He says that cats don’t age the same way as dogs and that I’m now about 18 years old in human years.  Can you remember when you were 18?  The old guy says that was a pretty rough time in his life.  Anyway, here’s the cat years calculator he downloaded from the computer:
   1-month-old kitten = 6-month-old human baby
   3-month-old kitten = 4-year-old child
   6-month-old kitten = 10 human years old
   8-month-old kitten = 15-year-old human
A 1-year-old cat has reached adulthood, the equivalent of 18 human years
   2 human years = 24 cat years
   4 human years = 35 cat years
   6 human years = 42 cat years
   8 human years = 50 cat years
   10 human years = 60 cat years
   12 human years = 70 cat years
   14 human years = 80 cat years
16 human years = 84 cat years

Rich still tries to play with me like I’m a little kitty, but I just don’t seem to have all that energy anymore.  I do enjoy trying to catch the feather thing he waves around, but it’s more fun to lay on the carpet and just try to grab it.  Rod says I’m just getting fat and lazy.  That from an old guy that rarely gets off his chair to get another snack. Ha!

On the prowl

It's weird, but when it's late at night, I get the urge to prowl around the house. The old guy is usually asleep, but last night he was watching a movie on TV and saw me prowling around.  I especially like to explore up on the ledge between the kitchen and living room.  The living room is still kind of a mess with the old TV still in there and some of Rich's other stuff that needs to go into storage.  I guess they'll eventually get it cleaned up and it will be easier for me to get into some places I haven't been able to reach.  I need to find a few more hideouts where I can pounce out on Rich when he's not expecting it.

Towel Riding

I got to play a new game last night:  Riding the bath towel.  Rich was dragging a towel all over the place and I had lots of fun grabbing onto to it for a ride.  I don't get it.  He gets me all hyped up and then complains when I get a little too frisky and take a little nip out of his legs.

Rich is the race photographer for the Nautica, Malibu triathlon this weekend, so I guess the old guy and I will be spending a quiet weekend at home.  I know he's not going to be moving around very fast, but it's kinda nice to snuggle up with him on his chair and just take it easy.

Crackers

The old guy thinks I’m getting a little chubby and is threatening to change my name from Tibs to Tubs.  Not funny, and he should take a look at himself in the mirror!  Lately, he’s been cutting back on giving me any little chicken treats, so I’m always on the lookout for something new I can nibble.  The box of crackers looked interesting, but I’d much rather have a little chicken.  Now that I’m nearly a year old, the old guy bought a different kind of dry food for me the other day and he’s mixing it in with my kitty food.  It’s kinda tasty and I think I’m going to enjoy it.  By the way Rod, the next time you take a video of me, please keep your finger off of the lens.  It’s very distracting.  You should certainly take some lessons from Rich.  Just take a look at the cool photo he took of me in the bathtub yesterday.  Now, that’s talent!

Mixing it up with Rich

Rich is a lot of fun, but he sure pushes me a little too far at times,  Sometimes I just want to kick back with my stuffed owl, or scratching piece, but he keeps making a battle out of it.  He'd better watch out.  My claws are growing nicely again and he walks around the house with no socks.  Not a good idea, Rich! Just ask the old guy.

Who turned out the lights?

Whoa!  What happened?  Nothing much to see in this video.

Yesterday was the weirdest day in my young life.  It was a REALLY hot day and all the power went off at around 3:30 in the afternoon.   The old guy had gone out to go to the bank and do a little shopping, but Rich was home and opened up all the windows in the house.   I guess the old guy was shopping for fruit and veggies at a little market when they lost the power.  He said that everyone thought it would come back on after a few minutes and most people were still hanging around, but he decided to give up and come home.  He said that he was lucky he did.  All the traffic lights were out and the freeway was a parking lot In both directions.  He was very glad to finally get home.

We were lucky to have some candles and flashlights around, but the power didn’t come back on until 1:30 in the morning.  My eyesight is pretty good at night, but the old guy was stumbling all over the place.  Thanks, Rich, for taking care of all of the emergency stuff for the old guy and me.  We made it through with no major problems.  Here's a story about what happened:

I tried looking out of the window to see what was going on, but all the lights were out and there was nobody outside.  The old guy tried to take a video of me in the dark, but there’s really nothing to see.  Duh!  Oh well, I got to sneak into the shower after Rich finished today and that was nice and refreshing.  I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend with no more surprises.
