A Conversation With The Old Guy

It was kind of hot and humid yesterday, and the old guy went out without turning on the air conditioner for me.  I gave him a piece of my mind when he came home, so he apologized and turned it on.  I tried to have an intelligent conversation with him while he was heating up some coffee in the microwave, but I'm not sure he understood what I was trying to say.  I just need to let him know that he really needs to look out for me in this hot weather.  Water, food, a few toys to play with and AC--that should just about do it.

Fun With Fettuccine

Tonight, the old guy made some pasta sauce with meat and mushrooms and cooked up some fettuccine.  It’s kinda like spaghetti, but flat.  I was able to grab a couple of strands while he had it draining in the sink and I’ve been having a ball playing with it.

It must be hard for the old guy to cook for just one person, but he seems to come up with a pretty good variety of dishes and seems to enjoy doing it.  He gets a lot of recipes off of Food Network and cooks all kinds of fish and chicken.  He made some beef stew the other night that was really tasty and also made a meatloaf, but forgot it was in the oven and almost burned it.  Rod makes large enough portions to freeze some individual packages, so there’s always something good to eat in the freezer.  When he bakes chicken, he saves the carcass and makes some chicken soup.  I get to sample it and really like that.  Yummy!  I wonder what’s on tomorrow’s menu?

Repeat Performance

I had so much fun with my owl the other night that I decided to play with him again last night.  It was really late and the old guy had dozed off in his chair.  When he woke up, he saw me playing and grabbed his iPhone.  I get very energetic at night at just about the time the old guy is ready to call it quits for the day.  Not exactly the perfect match.

My claws are getting pretty sharp again and I can do some serious damage with them.  I sure don't want to hurt my owl, but I'm afraid he may be losing some stuffing if I play too rough.  Maybe Rod will take me to the vet to trim my nails.  The lady there really seems to like me and takes good care of me.

Having Fun With My Owl

I’ve grown really fond of the stuffed owl toy that Troglodite, one of my fans, sent to me a while back.  He’s just the right size for me to be able to grab with all four paws and have some roughhouse fun.  And what’s nice is that he doesn’t fight back.  The old guy tells me I’m lucky that he's not the real thing because a real owl has very sharp claws and could eat me for lunch with no problem.

Greg, the old guy’s other son dropped by to see us this evening on his way back from San Diego.  He was surprised how much I’ve grown and said I’m not really a kitty any more.  Maybe not, but I still like to play and have fun.  I’m sure there will be plenty of time for me to laze around like the old guy when I get older.

It's A Bit Breezy Up Here.

What the heck is going on?  Sometimes, I like to get up in my favorite hiding place in the old guy’s office and just take a nice long nap.  Everything was going fine today, until the old guy turned on the ceiling fan.  Ugh!  That was a rude awakening and a bit scary.  The fan blades are going around really fast and there’s a big breeze up here.  I’d like to get down and find a safer place to snooze, but I don’t want to end up being the butt of a joke about “What happens when the cat hits the fan?”.  I guess I’ll just have to wait until Rod switches it off and I can make my way down to under the desk.

Brushing Up.

Wow, I had no idea what I was missing! The old guy has tried to groom me several times, but I never wanted any of it and always gave him the brushoff.  Today, I was taking a nice little nap by his computer and he started brushing me.  It felt sooo good!  From here on out, I’m going to let him do it any time he wants.  I don’t like it much when it tickles me on my tummy, but that brush sure feels good on my back and behind my ears.  C’mon Rod, let’s do it some more.

Chasing a Cherry

I was able to swipe one of the old guy's cherries while he was munching on them, but it sure is hard trying to keep my paws on it.  Somehow, it got caught in my Rubio's tote bag and I had a heck of a time trying to get at it.  I guess I was also getting a little distracted with all of my other toys laying around.  The old guy just showed me the video he took and I can see  how much I'm growing.  I'm now over nine months old, so I don't know how much longer I can get away with calling myself a kitten.  I'm hoping that the old guy doesn't think I'm gaining too much weight.  I really enjoy getting a few chicken and fish taco treats during the day, but it looks as though I may be getting a little "chunky". Please fans, let me know if you think I'm getting too fat.

Killer Cat

I found this live little thing crawling around in the bathtub and the old guy tells me it was a "fly".  He says it's the first one he's seen in the home since his wife and he had it built over eight years ago and he's blaming me.  Bummer!  Anyway, I had fun with the little critter for a while but I guess he just couldn't handle the rough play.  Sorry about that little fly.  The old guy picked it up with a piece of toilet pater and flushed it.  Bye, bye, fly!

El Gato Loco

I've been lazing around quite a bit since the old guy got out of the hospital, but I got a real burst of energy last night and just couldn't sit still for very long.  The old guy says I went "loco".  When I disappeared into the kitchen, he had to get his butt out of his chair and come to see what was going on.  I was just having a little fun with some of my food.

Just Lounging In My New Cube

The old guy hasn't been very active since he got out of the hospital and I've just been trying to amuse myself until he gets back to normal.  I've been taking it easy myself and not running around as much as usual.  The old guy says I'd better start doing some more "cute" things soon, or my fans are going to stop reading my blog.  I sure don't want that to happen.

My old red cube was really beat up, so Rich bought me a new one while he was down here looking after me.  Thanks, Rich.  It's going to take a while to break it in, but--right now--it's just kind of nice to lounge around in it and play with my stuffed owl.  Not a lot of action, but kind of fun anyway.

I Found My Owl.

Rich was trying to get me to do a whole bunch of stuff while he was here looking after me.  He took my stuffed owl and put it up on the ledge to see if I would go get it, but I didn't give him the satisfaction of finding out.  Now that the old guy is back home, I decided to go up there and see if my owl is okay.  He's fine, but I almost lost one of my nine lives while I was wandering around up there.  The old guy used his grabber tool to get it off the ledge and back on the floor where I can play with it.  Thanks a lot, Rich.  It's payback time the next time I see you.

Chillin With The Old Guy.

The old guy must have gone through quite a bit in the hospital.  He’s been pretty well worn out since he got home and just lounging around in his chair.  It’s kinda nice to have him home and I’ve tried to be on my best behavior since he got back.  We’ve been chillin’ out on his favorite chair and just trying to take it easy until he has more energy.

Rich bought me a new red cube while he was down here looking after me.  He sure is generous.  I haven’t had much of a chance to check it out, but it looks just about like my old one and I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with it.  I’ll give it a real workout after the old guy looks like he’s getting back to normal.  He got another chicken out of the freezer and started defrosting it today, so it looks like I’ll be getting some more treats pretty soon.  He got an Emeril recipe off of the Food Network for baked chicken and it’s really good.  The white meat is soooo tender it just melts in my mouth.  Yum!   I can’t wait until the old guy gets busy cooking it.

The Old Guy Is Back Home.

It was fun having Rich looking after me while the old guy was in the hospital, but I’ve gotta admit I really missed him and was very happy to see him come home today.  He said they kept him in the ER for 13 hours before admitting him on Tuesday and then put him through all kinds of procedures for three days.  Rod has to take a blood thinner because he has a couple of stents in his heart, but he also has a colon problem and the blood thinner makes him bleed easily.  He’s going to need to be extra careful about what he eats from here on out.

Anyway, it’s good to have the old guy home again.  He conked out in his chair almost as soon as he got in the door and I took a nice long nap with him.  Maybe now we can get back to our normal routine.

Thanks, Rich, for taking such good care of me.   I sure hope you reach your goal of raising $5,000 for Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).  Just two days left to donate and have a chance at winning some great prizes.  Check it out:

Why is Rich Here?

I have been wondering where the old guy is. Rich has been here, but he is not as fun as Rod. Rich says Rod went to the "hospital". Whatever that is. He says Rod is okay and will be home today. Yay! I really miss him.

Rich and I were looking through pictures on the computer and we found this one. Gosh, I was so cute! It was taken November last year.

That's all for now. I need to get cleaned up so I look good for the old guy!

I was so cute!

Fun With A Cherry Stem

The old guy says, "Little things please little minds".  He should know!  I don't know how a cherry stem found its way into the master bathroom, but there it is, just taunting me.  Every time I try to grab it with my paws, it manages to slide under the bathroom scales or the mat by the shower.  I couldn't move the scales when I was smaller, but now that I've grown quite a bit, I can slide it around and get under it.  This little plaything could keep me busy all day.

It's The Pits

The old guy sure does eat a lot of fruit and he says it’s good for him.  It seems like he brings something new home each week:  oranges, apples, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches—and the list goes on.  I’m used to seeing the little cherry pits he leaves in a glass by the sink, but today he ate a plum and had the big pit in a paper towel by his chair.  I tried to play with it, but it was stuck to the towel and I just couldn’t get it off.  It really wasn’t worth all the effort, so I think I’ll save my energy for more important things.

Sorren The Owl Gets a Workout

I really miss my tube, but I guess I have only myself to blame.  Yesterday, I ripped a piece of fabric off of the end and the sharp metal spring came popping out.  The old guy saw it and stashed it away.  He said he didn’t want me getting impaled on it and getting blood all over his carpet.  He talks tough, but I really think he didn’t want me to get hurt.

I’ve still got all kinds of things to play with and Rod put out another bag that he got free at the store the other day.  It’s got possibilities, but I decided to give the owl a workout today.   He’s just the right size to grab with all four paws and he doesn’t put up any resistance.  It’s still too darn hot today to do much running around, but I’m enjoying myself.  I’m not sure how the owl feels about it.

I don't like this weather!

It’s still hot and humid and I don’t have a lot of energy, but a kitty has to play.  I was able to yank a piece of cloth off the end of my tube and it’s got all kinds of possibilities.  Kinda like playing with some of the old guy’s spaghetti.   I’m sure hoping it cools off in the next few days so I can get back to my normal play routine, but I guess this is good enough for  now.

An Afternoon Nap

I just woke up after a nice long nap with the old guy in his favorite chair and with the AC going full blast.  What better way to spend a hot, muggy afternoon?  Very nice!

I'm a Lucky Kitty

It seems like people just can't stop giving me stuff.  Rich always brings me some new toys when he comes to visit and one of my fans sent me a couple of packages full of all kinds of good stuff.  Sometimes I just can't decide what I want to play with next.  The old guy says he's going to make it a lot simpler for me by putting a bunch of stuff away, or throwing out a few things.  He'd just better not get rid of my red cube.  It may be beat up, but--along with Fuzzy-- it's still my favorite thing.

Lazy Play

Yesterday was just one of those kinds of days where all I wanted to do was kick back and relax.   The old guy broke out some more of the toys Rich brought down and I tried playing with them, but my heart really wasn’t in it.  It was hot and muggy again, and Rod finally broke down and turned on the AC.  What a tight wad!

The old guy said the weather reminded him of when he was in the Air Force and going to technical school in Biloxi, Mississippi back in 1951.  At least there aren’t any monster mosquitos buzzing around.  Rod said the weather was also like that down in Panama City, Florida where Rich was born 50 years ago this month.  It’s just not the right kind of weather for a little kitty, or an old man.  Maybe it will get back to normal soon.  I’m hoping the old guy remembers that it’s Tuesday today and he can get his Rubio’s fish tacos on special.  I could go for a little nibble on one of those right now.

A Little Cat Talk

I try to talk with the old guy, but he doesn't seem to understand.  What I'm trying to tell him is, "Clean up the kitchen and give me some food".

Another New Toy

This has been kind of a lazy weekend.  Rich came over yesterday and brought me a whole bunch of new toys.  The old guy says I’m getting spoiled and should give some of my stuff to kitties that aren’t as fortunate as me.   Maybe he’s right, but I enjoy getting all the goodies.  It’s been really hot and humid and Rod has had the AC running non-stop.  He‘s just lounging around the house and not doing much of anything—not that it’s much different to his usual routine.

One of the toys that Rich bought me is a mouse that looks just a little too real.  I’ve been playing with him a little bit, but he really kind of scares me.  It’s just too hot to play hard anyway and I really don’t have my heart in it.

I did find a nice place to relax in the bathroom.  I don’t know who designed the bathtub, but they included a nice cutout area that’s just the right size for me to take a snooze.  I can’t imagine why else they would have a special place like that.  Maybe I’ll have more energy tomorrow.

Lights, Camera...Action?

It's been a long week.  I think this is the way the old guy and I are going to spend the July 4th weekend.
